Abstract This specification covers concentric-lay-stranded aluminum conductors, coated-steel reinforced (ACSR), made from round aluminum 1350-H19 wires and round, coated steel core wire for use as overhead electrical conductors. ACSR covered by this specification has nine types of coated steel core wire which are designated by abbreviations as follows: ACSR/GA-ACSR, ACSR/GB-ACSR, ACSR/GC-ACSR, ACSR/MA-ACSR, ACSR/MB-ACSR, ACSR/MC-ACSR, ACSR/HS-ACSR, ACSR/MS-ACSR, and ACSR/AZ-ACSR. Before stranding, the aluminum wire and steel core wire shall meet the requirements prescribed. ACSR may be constructed using steel core wire with any one of nine types of protective coatings. The acceptable core wires are galvanized steel core wires, coating Classes A, B, or C ; high-strength galvanizes steel core wire; Zn-5Al-MM coated steel core wire; coating Classes A, B, or C ; aluminized steel core wire in accordance with the prescribed specifications. Tests for mechanical and electrical properties of zinc-coated, Zn-5Al-MM coated or aluminum coated steel wires shall be made before stranding. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other.
