このSAE推奨プラクティスは、自動車の騒音と不快感の主観的評価のための評価尺度を確立します。特定の道路上の特定の車両を利用する試験手順を通じて、騒音および不快感に対するタイヤの相対的な寄与を評価するためにスケールを利用することができる。自動車用タイヤに起因する騒音および乗り心地特性は、伝統的に、評価対象のタイヤを搭載した車両において、所与のロードコースを横断する際に観察される可聴および触覚に主観的に番号指定(一般に1〜10スケール)を割り当てることによって推定されてきた。騒音や違和感に関するタイヤ特性の客観的な測定が進んでいるにもかかわらず、その意義を確立するためには主観的な評価が引き続き必要である。この勧告の評価尺度は、隆起、叩きつけ、平手打ち、揺れなどの用語で言及される多種多様な可聴および触覚障害のそれぞれの評価に適用可能である。
